The Palace, a destination between heritage and nature

Welcome to Le Palais, the capital of Belle-Île-en-Mer, where the colorful houses, the lively port and the wild landscapes of the island make it a unique and exotic destination.

A port steeped in history
Dominating the city, the Vauban citadel, an imposing 17th-century fortress, is a must-see to understand the military history of the island and admire a breathtaking panorama of the Atlantic. Strolling around the port, you will discover alleys lined with houses with colorful shutters, art galleries and local artisan shops.

An island with magnificent landscapes
The surroundings of the Palais offer quick access to some of the most beautiful beaches and coves of Belle-Île, such as the Grands Sables beach or the Port Fouquet cove. Hiking enthusiasts can take the GR340 coastal path, which allows you to follow the cliffs and admire exceptional panoramas of the ocean. Our favorite: the Pointe des Poulains, a wild and spectacular site where you can visit the house of Sarah Bernhardt and enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the sea.

A refined, salty cuisine
Belle-Île is renowned for its seafood specialties, such as tuna rillettes, grilled lobsters and salted butter crepes, to be enjoyed in one of the port's traditional creperies.
